Online Dutch Lessons

I lived in Holland, just North of Amsterdam for 5 years, over 30 years ago and I visit friends there at least once a year. My Dutch is very rusty, I get by (kind of!) but I wanted to improve so that I could hold conversations without getting frustrated, and confused, as I love Holland so.

My daughter, Becky who was born in Holland and lived there until she was 2, bought us both a 'taster' lesson with Jelle as a Mother’s Day present over 2 years ago . We decided we loved it so much that we would go together every week for a lesson from then on.

The lessons are great fun (well I have a lot of fun!) informative, challenging and, hopefully, improving my Dutch speech, understanding, writing and pronunciation.

The interactive learning tool that supports our lessons is a great way to revise what we have learnt and is quite addictive! It can be accessed via the computer or your mobile and its quirky style is also a lot of fun. I particularly like the personalisation as it is Jelle's voice pronouncing the words which is cool. You can dip in and do a level about a specific area of the language or revise work you have previously done. There's also a leader board for those who are a bit competitive!

Jelle's very personal style, patience and sense of humour make the hour fly by. The one-to-one teaching style suits me as he tailors the lesson to strengths and weaknesses. Homework is set (groan) but it usually includes a fun listening exercise which I enjoy.

I would highly recommend Jelle to anyone wanting to learn Dutch, at whatever level. I'm already looking forward to going back to Amsterdam next year and being able to speak and understand the language better which will enhance an already enjoyable experience.

“I am currently learning Dutch via Skype with Dutch 4 Beginners for two reasons - to add Dutch to my current credentials (with the hope of increasing my potential employability) and to fulfill the thirst for knowledge that is applicable to everyday situations where it can be used in both the breaking down of social barriers as well as just for having a bit of fun! I'm learning Dutch to prepare me for a teaching job in the Netherlands! My partner is also Dutch so learning the language was a great move in our relationship and will help me to talk more to his friends and family.

I was looking for a tutor that was within a commutable distance (I'm the type of person that prefers a face to face conversation even though online Dutch lessons were available), someone that was approachable and able to deal with my sense of humour!

I really enjoyed my Dutch4Beginners lessons. They linked on from one another so it was a continual learning process with reinforcement of previous topics - as simple as a conversation. I liked how Jelle developed his own resources and they worked for his teaching approach. There was a lot of repetition which really helped me to grasp the content, and the homework tasks made the task second nature! I can now confidently tell the time in Dutch for instance! He also uses audio methods of learning so it suits the style of many learners.

Firstly, it's not just for beginners! I have been studying Dutch for many years and can honestly say that I have learnt far more with Jelle than other tutors I have had.

As I live some distance away, the lessons are via Skype but this has never been a problem. Jelle is a very patient teacher who always takes time to explain grammar thoroughly, and makes sure you have understood everything before moving on. We typically cover a lot of ground in one hour but Jelle's friendly and good-humoured manner always makes the lessons enjoyable.

I live in Sheffield and travel to Nottingham to have lessons with Dutch 4 Beginners. I am an engineering student in Sheffield who is planning to spend time living in the Netherlands during an internship and also possibly studying there at the postgraduate level. I decided therefore that I would start learning Dutch in preparation for me moving there. Learning the language has already helped me become more accustomed to the Dutch culture and I have also found that it helps make my application stand out when being considered for internship opportunities.
